‘Living in …? Persuading your employees to relocate’

An international company at the leading edge of opto-electronics technology turned to IRN in November 2000 for a mini-research project.

WHAT: The creation of 5 country profiles to help in the process of relocation of a company’s employees

The company works from various locations around the world. It is of prime importance to the company to help their highly dynamic employees to relocate. This includes providing them with up-to-date information about day-to-day life in various countries and cities of the World.

The corporate web-site had a ‘living in Scotland section’. Our mission was to create similar sections for California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ottawa and Enschede. The sections had to cover very practical points and be as informative as possible to employees considering relocating: what to expect regarding housing if they decided to move? Medical facilities? Local schools? Entertainment?

WHY IRN: An ideal combination of internal research capabilities and access to an international network of consultants

Preliminary desk research from London was the first step. The second step consisted in obtaining up-to-date information directly from the source. Who else would know better about food and drink in Ottawa than someone living in Ottawa? Who else would know better about local cinemas in Enschede than someone living in Enschede? Consultants in the USA, the Netherlands and Canada all contributed to the profiles in their own personal way.

THE RESULTS: 5 lively country profiles on-line

The project was completed in less than two weeks. The 5 country profiles completed by IRN Services will go on the company’s web-site for all potential employees willing to relocate to get lively information about their country of interest. It will also act as a tool for persuading employees and their families to uproot themselves and move to the location of their choice according to the information presented on the company website.
