France Loses Share

08.24.2011

France loses share of outbound UK travellers in the first quarter 2011.

The recently published quarterly report France – UK Visitors* shows that France lost share of outbound UK travellers – falling from 17.0% share in the first quarter of 2010 to 16.3% in 2011. There were 55,000 fewer UK resident visits to France in the quarter which was equivalent to a fall of 3%. This was against a 0.5% increase in the number of UK resident outbound visits to nearly 10.2 million visits.

Despite the fall, France was still the most popular destination in the first quarter with nearly 1.67 million visits, some 16% more visits than its nearest rival, Spain with over 1.4 million visits.

Statistics produced in the report are brought to the market by analysis of the International Passenger Survey (IPS) by IRN Research and provides detailed breakdowns of visitors by age, gender, reason for travel, residency and mode of transport.
