In August 2016, there was a 9.0 per cent rise freight unit traffic on the English Channel, Eurotunnel and Irish Sea routes compared with the same month a year earlier. The 489k units for August underpinned the eight month growth trend to August 2016.
Eight months to August 2016
In the eight months to August 2016, the number of freight units on the English Channel, Eurotunnel and Irish Sea routes increased by 5.4 per cent to nearly 4.1 m accompanied and unaccompanied freight units.
The corresponding increase for Short Sea ferry routes was 1.8 per cent to 1.7m freight units. This compared with 3.3 per cent increase in Western Channel traffic to 189k units. There was a 5.6 per cent increase on Irish Sea routes to 1.1m units over the same period.
All sectors increased traffic in the eight months to August but several individual routes declined.
